Godeval Cepas Vellas is an old vine Godello from D.O. Valdeorras, rested six months on its lees. The older plantings give a denser Galician white of ripe pear, white peach and citrus over the firm mineral grip of slate soils.

Description
Godeval sources Cepas Vellas from its oldest Godello plantings in D.O. Valdeorras, in the hills of eastern Galicia. Older vines run small crops on deep roots, which raises concentration and gives the wine more mid palate weight than a young vine bottling. The soils are slate and decomposed granite, free draining and low in fertility, and the altitude keeps nights cool so acidity holds through a slow ripening. The fruit is pressed gently and fermented in stainless steel to keep the aromatics clean, then aged around six months on its fine lees. Lees contact releases mannoproteins that fill out the texture and lend a light savoury depth while the fruit stays to the front. The colour is bright straw with a green tint. The nose shows ripe pear, white peach and orchard blossom lifted by a citrus edge and a stony undertone. The palate is broad and layered yet firmly mineral, saline through the middle and long on the close. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees in a white wine glass.
