Description
Godeval is a Godello from the DO Valdeorras in Galicia, produced by Bodegas Godeval from vineyards on the slate slopes of the Valle del Sil. The climate is continental but strongly marked by Atlantic influence, so warm days give ripeness while cool nights and altitude preserve acidity and aromatic detail. The schist and slate soils drain freely and lend the wine its stony, saline character. Godello was close to extinction in the region and was revived here, and it delivers more body and stone fruit than the leaner Galician whites while keeping freshness. The grapes are picked entirely by hand and farmed with respect for the natural environment. Vinification is clean and unoaked, protecting the fruit and the mineral profile rather than adding wood. The result is a pale, bright white with a nose of white peach, pear and melon lifted by citrus peel and white flowers. The palate is medium bodied and dry, with a firm line of acidity and a stony, slightly saline finish. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
