Description
Godelia Godello comes from Bodegas Godelia in the district of Pieros, within the D.O. Bierzo in the north west of Castilla y León. The blend is around 80 percent Godello with 20 percent Doña Blanca, drawn from the winery's own and rented plots. Bierzo sits in a sheltered basin where Atlantic and continental influences meet, and the slate and clay soils that mark the region give Godello its cut and its stony character. Godello is a variety with natural weight and stone-fruit depth, and here it is handled to keep freshness: fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperature preserves the aromatics, and five months resting on its fine lees adds texture and a subtle savoury note through slow autolysis. There is no oak, so the fruit stays clear. The colour is bright pale gold. The nose shows pear, white peach and citrus with a floral lift. The palate is fresh and rounded, medium bodied, with ripe orchard fruit balanced by a mineral, saline finish. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees.
