Rolf Kaspar GmbH is an Essen based importer and bottler that has operated in the German whisky trade for several decades, releasing single casks under various themed labels including Black Corbie. The series favours younger, high strength bottlings drawn from active sherry casks, presenting a different value proposition from the long aged programmes of larger independent bottlers. This Glenrothes 9 Years Old was filled in 2014 and bottled in 2024 at 63% from a single Oloroso cask, with 263 bottles for the German market.

At nine years and 63%, this is a young cask running hot. The relatively short maturation gives less time for the gentler maturation chemistry to soften the cask's extractive load, while the high abv intensifies whatever the wood is contributing. First or second fill Oloroso casks at this strength deliver pronounced sherry residue (oxidised glucose, fructose, aldehydes) alongside fresh tannin extraction from European oak. The spirit's natural Speyside ester chemistry runs underneath but the cask leads.

The nose presents dense dried fruit with a fresh European oak grip behind: raisin, fig and a sherried sweetness layered over polished wood. The palate concentrates further at 63%, cocoa, prune and developing rancio threaded with the high strength's heat. The finish is long, tannic and slightly aggressive, with the cask's full extraction pressing through and the spirit's youth showing in residual heat.
