Description
Duncan Taylor's Dimensions range presents single cask releases at natural strength, sitting parallel to the firm's Single Cask label and Octave finishing programme. The Aberdeen based bottler operates Dimensions as a tier focused on individual cask character rather than house style consistency. This Glenrothes 9 Years Old, distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2021 from cask 49193 at 54.8%, runs to 376 bottles released into the German market.
Nine years in a single Oloroso cask produces a young but cask forward profile. The cask's first fill activity remains in active extraction at this age, with European oak's tannin contribution accumulating at productive levels alongside the residual oxidised sherry's transfer to the spirit. Lignin's breakdown contributes vanillin and syringaldehyde, hemicellulose chemistry builds furfural in the background, and ellagitannins structure the spirit without softening. The 54.8% strength sits in productive balance, neither overwhelming nor under expressing the cask's contribution.
The nose lifts raisin and fig with polished oak underneath, the cask's first fill sherry signature clearly forward. The palate moves through dark chocolate, dried prune and a developing leathery quality, the 54.8% strength delivering balance without harshness. Cocoa nib bitterness emerges mid palate as oak tannins assert themselves. The finish runs medium long and gently tannic, European oak holding the spirit's Speyside fruit against the cask's accumulated chemistry.
