Description
Duckhammer's Rare & Fine Spirits is a German specialist bottler and retailer, partnering with the Wu Dram Clan private collective for the Lighthouse Series. Wu Dram Clan operates as a collaborative bottling project, pooling cask selection and warehousing across its members to release small batch curated bottlings. This Glenrothes 36 Years Old, distilled in 1986 and bottled in 2022 from cask 2125 at 45.6%, runs to just 72 bottles for the German market.
Thirty six years in a refill bourbon cask produces a profile fundamentally driven by distillery character. The cask's first fill activity exhausted under previous tenancy, the wood contributes minimally through slow secondary chemistry alone. The natural reduction to 45.6% reflects nearly four decades of angel's share evaporation in higher humidity warehousing, the alcohol fraction giving way to water over time. Lignin's tertiary breakdown continues to deliver small amounts of vanillin and syringaldehyde, with lactones contributing coconut at attenuated levels.
The nose carries dark chocolate and hay barn warmth with fresh apple, beeswax and a faint vanilla pod underneath. The palate runs honeyed and gentle, cooked pear and lemon curd at the front, the 45.6% strength delivering the spirit's preserved acidity with minimal cask interference. The finish is long, soft and lingering, the cask's exhausted tannin signature giving the spirit's accumulated maturation clear room to express.
