This Glenrothes 25 Years Old, distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2021 at 48.8% from Oloroso casks, was labelled Clove Studded Oranges with 194 bottles for the German market.

Twenty five years in Oloroso casks produces a richly developed sherry profile through accumulated cask interaction. By this age the cask's first fill activity has tapered, with secondary extractions of lignin and hemicellulose leading: syringaldehyde, vanillin and eugenol from slow lignin breakdown alongside furfural from hemicellulose chemistry. The residual Oloroso sherry's sotolon contributes the savoury walnut backbone that distinguishes long aged sherry. Vatting multiple casks smooths individual variation while preserving the developed signature.

The nose carries orange peel and clove with raisin and polished oak underneath, the name's tasting reference clearly grounded in the cask's chemistry. The palate moves through dried fruit, dark chocolate and a savoury walnut depth, with 48.8% strength delivering balance without harshness. The finish runs long and softly tannic, the European oak's grip framing the cask's accumulated chemistry around the spirit's Speyside fruit.
