Description
Cadenhead's Club is a membership programme operated by Cadenhead's, with dedicated bottlings released to club members rather than the general trade. Cadenhead's is Scotland's oldest continuously operating independent bottler, founded in Aberdeen in 1842 and now run from Campbeltown under J&A Mitchell ownership. This Glenrothes 22 Years Old, distilled in 1996 and bottled in 2019 at 54.7% from Oloroso casks, was vatted across 636 bottles for the German market.
Twenty two years in Oloroso casks sits in the rich middle window for sherry maturation moving toward long extractive territory. The casks' first fill activity is well developed with European oak's tannin contribution matured into structure rather than aggression. The residual Oloroso sherry residue has fully integrated through accumulated cask interaction, while lignin's breakdown delivers vanillin and syringaldehyde alongside hemicellulose's furfural chemistry. Vatting multiple casks smooths individual variation while preserving the developed signature.
On the nose, fresh fruit sits with hay barn warmth, vanilla pod and dried fruit threading through. A faint plastic note signals the spirit's accumulated polymer chemistry from extended cask contact, with honey balancing the cask's tannic structure. The palate moves through fig, raisin and a polished oak undertone, the 54.7% strength delivering the cask's accumulated chemistry without astringency. The finish runs long and softly tannic, European oak framing the spirit's Speyside fruit.
