Description
Dràm Mòr is a Glasgow based independent bottler operated by Viv and Kenny Macdonald, presenting single cask releases at natural strength with a focus on European cask finishes and unusual sherry styles alongside more traditional bourbon and Oloroso routes. This Glenrothes 10 Years Old, bottled in 2020 from cask 5280 at 58%, runs to 348 bottles released into the Netherlands market from a single refill bourbon cask.
Ten years in a refill bourbon cask produces a moderately developed American oak signature. The cask's first fill activity softened by previous tenancy, the wood contributes through gradual extraction: lignin's breakdown delivers vanillin and syringaldehyde at measured levels, lactones produce coconut and creamy oak through cumulative contact, and ellagitannins build structure without the heavier tannic load European oak would deliver. The 58% strength sits in productive balance with the cask's contribution.
On the nose, citric lift sits over a faint coal gas note, with dried fruit and a leathery mossy undertone signalling the cask's accumulated chemistry. A nutty depth emerges underneath. The palate moves through cooked pear, honey and lemon curd, the 58% strength delivering the cask's contribution alongside the spirit's Speyside character. The finish runs medium long and softly drying, the cask leaving the spirit's natural fruit at the front rather than overwriting with wood.
