Licensed in 1836 and bought by John Grant in 1865, at Ballindalloch. Drawn from the largest, direct fired stills in Speyside, for a nutty depth. This is Glenfarclas’s deep, fruity Speyside style.

Description
This official Glenfarclas, a 10 year old, from 2014, at 50%, 3600 bottles in all. Glenfarclas is a Speyside single malt, one of the last great family owned distilleries in Scotch. It holds some sixty eight thousand casks on site in dunnage warehouses, with stock from every year since 1953. Its six stills are the largest in Speyside and among the very few still fired directly, now by gas. Its water rises from the granite of Ben Rinnes, above the distillery at Ballindalloch.
Distilled in copper pot stills, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. It was fully matured in an Oloroso sherry cask, the wood deep in the rich spirit. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At 50%, undiluted, it is dark and full. A rich, sherried sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Dried fruit and a treacle sit behind the spice. The finish is rounded, dark and spiced. This is a Speyside single malt of real standing.
