Description
This official Glenfarclas, an 8 year old, at 40%. Glenfarclas is a Speyside single malt matured almost wholly in sherry casks from Jerez. Its slow, cool dunnage maturation loses very little to the angels each year. Its six stills are the largest in Speyside and among the very few still fired directly, now by gas. It launched the 105 in 1968, one of the first cask strength single malts sold to the public.
Drawn from a thick, heavy wash, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak gentle behind the spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit rich, fruity and full. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. The full bodied spirit takes active sherry wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time.
At 40% it is rich, fruity and deep. A rich orchard sweetness and dark sugar, lifted by a sweet oak. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. It finishes long, full and fruity. This is a rich Speyside malt of dried fruit and nut.
