A 15 year old Glenfarclas, a distillery bottling, at 46%. Glenfarclas, the glen of green grass, is a richly sherried Speyside single malt. It launched the 105 in 1968, one of the first cask strength single malts sold to the public. Its spirit is matured almost wholly in sherry butts brought up from Jerez.

The spirit was distilled to a rich, generous cut, giving a deep, full bodied Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak gentle behind the spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds ripe esters and a darker chocolate, fig and date depth. Long ageing turns the fresh notes towards date, prune and a dark, bittersweet chocolate. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register. Active wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body. The cool, slow dunnage ageing loses little to evaporation, the spirit holding its depth.

At an approachable 46% it is soft and fruity. Fig, walnut and a bittersweet chocolate, lifted by a sweet oak. A dark chocolate and a soft oak give it weight. It finishes long, full and fruity. This is a dark, fruity Speyside single malt.
