A 12 year old Glenfarclas, a distillery bottling, at 43%. Glenfarclas is a Speyside single malt drawn from the largest, direct fired stills in Speyside. It has been run by six generations of the Grant family, one of Scotch whisky's last truly independent houses. It launched the 105 in 1968, one of the first cask strength single malts sold to the public. Its whiskies are bottled at their natural colour, without chill filtration.

Distilled to a rich, generous cut, giving a deep, full bodied Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the full character to the fore. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. The cool, slow dunnage ageing loses little to evaporation, the spirit holding its depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.

At 43% it is smooth and rich. Fig, walnut and a bittersweet chocolate, lifted by a sweet oak. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. A long finish carries raisin, chocolate and a treacle. This is a dark, fruity Speyside single malt.
