A 23 year old Glendullan, a distillery bottling, from 1974, at 63.1%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, once supplied to King Edward VII. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States. It runs long fermentations and a slow distillation for a green, grassy, lightly fruity spirit.

It was run slowly off the spirit still, for the green, grassy make Glendullan is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending a creamy vanilla. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend structure while oxidation builds a richer tropical fruit over beeswax. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. Because the long fermentation keeps the spirit fresh and grassy, the cask shows clearly with time. The fresh, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft honey.

At 63.1%, undiluted, it is rich and fruity. Apple, melon and a light honey, lifted by a soft oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The finish runs fresh, grassy and clean. This is a clean, fruity Speyside single malt.
