Description
This Glendullan was bottled by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd, a 13 year old, distilled in 1998, from cask 9117, at 46%, one of 550 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, once supplied to King Edward VII. Its water rises at the Goats Well spring in the Conval Hills above the distillery. It sits on the banks of the River Fiddich, in the heart of Speyside.
Distilled in onion shaped copper pot stills, for a clean, grassy make with a fruity lift. Maturation came in a Port cask, layered over the green Glendullan make. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the fruity spirit growing rounder and creamier. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to gold, the body growing rounder with time. Long ageing turns the fresh green notes towards orchard fruit, honey and a gentle spice.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. Apple, melon and a light honey, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. Soft pear and a light vanilla sit behind the cask. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a green, malty Speyside single malt.
