Description
A Glendullan of a 12 year old chosen by Signatory Vintage, distilled in 2009, from cask 315679 + 315684, at 46%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, founded in 1897 in Dufftown, the last of the town's seven distilleries. A second distillery was built alongside the original in 1972, the two running together until the old plant closed in 1985. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States.
Distilled from unpeated malt, for the green, grassy make Glendullan is known for. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the fruity spirit growing rounder and creamier. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation.
Bottled at 46%, it is light and creamy. Apple, melon and a light honey, lifted by a soft oak. Melon, pear and a soft honey fill the middle. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a fresh, grassy Speyside single malt.
