Description
This Glendullan was bottled by James MacArthur, a 12 year old, distilled in 1997, from cask 5059, at 56.1%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, once supplied to King Edward VII. It sits on the banks of the River Fiddich, in the heart of Speyside. Most of its make has always gone to blends, above all Diageo's Old Parr. It runs long fermentations and a slow distillation for a green, grassy, lightly fruity spirit.
The spirit was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, building a clean malt of orchard fruit and a grassy edge. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the fruity spirit growing rounder and creamier. The fresh, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft honey. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation.
At 56.1%, undiluted, it is rich and fruity. Apple, melon and a light honey, lifted by a soft oak. The body is light and fresh, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. A medium finish carries a soft honey. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
