Description
A 12 year old Glendullan from Blackadder, distilled in 1993, from cask 1669, at 58.9%, one of 238 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt known for a green, grassy, lightly fruity style. Most of its make has always gone to blends, above all Diageo's Old Parr. It was the last of the Dufftown stills, the town said to stand on seven stills as Rome stands on seven hills. A second distillery was built alongside the original in 1972, the two running together until the old plant closed in 1985.
It was drawn from a long fermentation, for a clean, grassy make with a fruity lift. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working into the fruity malt. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the pear softening towards a creamy honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit.
At a hearty 58.9% it carries real weight. Pear, citrus and a soft barley, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The body is light and fresh, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. The finish runs fresh, grassy and clean. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
