Description
This Glendullan was bottled by Master of Malt, an 11 year old, at 43%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, bottled by Diageo as the Singleton of Glendullan for the American market. Its water rises at the Goats Well spring in the Conval Hills above the distillery. It was the last of the Dufftown stills, the town said to stand on seven stills as Rome stands on seven hills. Most of its make has always gone to blends, above all Diageo's Old Parr.
It was drawn from a long fermentation, building a clean malt of orchard fruit and a grassy edge. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit.
Bottled at 43%, it is light and creamy. A fresh, fruity malt with a green edge, lifted by a soft oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft grass. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
