Description
An 11 year old Glendullan from Ian Macleod, distilled in 1999, from cask 91721 + 91722, at 43%, one of 804 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt from Dufftown, once supplied to King Edward VII. Its founder also struck an exclusive supply deal with neighbouring Glenfiddich. It runs long fermentations and a slow distillation for a green, grassy, lightly fruity spirit.
Run slowly off the spirit still, for a fresh, fruity spirit with a light body. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the fruity spirit growing rounder and creamier. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Speyside spirit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown.
At an approachable 43% it is fresh and clean. Green apple, pear and a light grass, lifted by a soft oak. It is fruity and clean, the grassy spirit shining through. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the lightly fruity malt of Dufftown.
