Description
A 10 year old Glendullan from A.D. Rattray, distilled in 2010, from cask 151, at 58.9%, one of 176 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt known for a green, grassy, lightly fruity style. Its water rises at the Goats Well spring in the Conval Hills above the distillery. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States.
Distilled in onion shaped copper pot stills, building a clean malt of orchard fruit and a grassy edge. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the pear softening towards a creamy honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. Maturation runs slow and even in the warehouses at Dufftown. Because the long fermentation keeps the spirit fresh and grassy, the cask shows clearly with time.
At a hearty 58.9% it carries real weight. Apple, melon and a light honey, lifted by a soft oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft grass. The finish runs fresh, grassy and clean. This is a green, malty Speyside single malt.
