Description
The Single Cask Ltd bottled this Glendullan, a 10 year old, distilled in 2010, from cask 131, at 60%, one of 262 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, long a blending malt and now a name in its own right. It was the last of the Dufftown stills, the town said to stand on seven stills as Rome stands on seven hills. A second distillery was built alongside the original in 1972, the two running together until the old plant closed in 1985. Since 2007 its single malt has been bottled as the Singleton of Glendullan, aimed at the United States.
It was run slowly off the spirit still, for a clean, grassy make with a fruity lift. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. The fresh, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft honey.
At a natural 60% it is full and creamy. Pear, apple and a soft spice, lifted by a soft oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft grass. A fresh finish closes on pear and a soft oak. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
