Description
This official Glendronach, a 28 year old, from 1994, cask 7470, at 52.6%. Glendronach is a Highland single malt, long a blending malt and now a sherry led name in its own right. It was bought in 1920 by Charles Grant, a son of the founder of Glenfiddich. By 1862 it had grown into the largest duty paying distillery in the Highlands. It ferments in Oregon pine washbacks over long fermentations for a full, fruity spirit.
The spirit was drawn from a thick, heavy wash, for a weighty make built to take active Spanish oak. It was fully matured in an Oloroso sherry puncheon, the wood deep in the rich spirit. In the oxidative, evaporative years the spirit concentrates to dried fruit, dark chocolate and a waxy, resinous depth. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich Glendronach make. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years.
At a hearty 52.6% it carries real weight. Orange, raisin and a treacle edge, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Dried fruit and a treacle sit behind the spice. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is the sherry led malt of Forgue.
