Description
A 26 year old Glendronach, a distillery bottling, from 1992, cask 66, at 57.1%, 574 bottles in all. Glendronach is a Highland single malt, revived from 2008 by Billy Walker's BenRiach company. It was founded in 1826 by James Allardice, said to be the second man in Scotland to take a licence after the Excise Act of 1823. By 1862 it had grown into the largest duty paying distillery in the Highlands. It ferments in Oregon pine washbacks over long fermentations for a full, fruity spirit.
It was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, giving a deep, full bodied Highland spirit. An Oloroso sherry butt held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into raisin, fig, beeswax and a bittersweet chocolate. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Highland body.
Bottled at a cask strength 57.1%, it is deep and concentrated. A rich, sherried sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. A long finish carries raisin, chocolate and a treacle. This is Glendronach's deep, fruity Highland style.
