A distillery release of Glendronach, a 25 year old, from 1992, cask 52, at 58.5%, 554 bottles in all. Glendronach is a richly sherried Highland single malt from the Valley of Forgue, built on full bodied spirit and Spanish oak. It was founded in 1826 by James Allardice, said to be the second man in Scotland to take a licence after the Excise Act of 1823. It ferments in Oregon pine washbacks over long fermentations for a full, fruity spirit.

The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, building a deep malt of dried fruit and dark sugar. It was matured in an Oloroso sherry butt, the wood working deep into the malt. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend structure while oxidation builds a richer raisin and treacle. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Highland body. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register.

Bottled at a cask strength 58.5%, it is deep and concentrated. Raisin, chocolate and a warm spice, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is full and coating, the fruit dark and sweet. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is a richly sherried Highland single malt.
