Description
This official Glendronach, a 25 year old, from 1992, cask 127, at 50.9%, 636 bottles in all. Glendronach is a Highland single malt known for its heavy Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry maturation. Its water is the Dronac Burn, which also gave the distillery its name. It joined William Teacher and Sons in 1960 and became a core malt of the Teacher's blend.
It was distilled in copper pot stills, shaping a rich Highland body with real weight. Maturation came in an Oloroso sherry butt, layered over the full Glendronach make. At this evaporative stage ellagitannins lend structure while oxidation builds a richer raisin and treacle. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich Glendronach make. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Highland body. Active first fill sherry wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.
At its natural 50.9% it is rich and chewy. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dark chocolate and a soft oak give it weight. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is a full bodied Highland single malt of real richness.
