Description
This official Glendronach, a 25 year old, from 1968, at 43%. Glendronach is a Highland single malt whose founder was an early champion of sherry cask maturation. Its water is the Dronac Burn, which also gave the distillery its name. It ferments in Oregon pine washbacks over long fermentations for a full, fruity spirit.
It was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, giving a deep, full bodied Highland spirit. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into raisin, fig, beeswax and a bittersweet chocolate. Active first fill sherry wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register.
At an approachable 43% it is soft and fruity. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. The finish is rounded, dark and spiced. This is a dark, fruity Highland single malt.
