Description
This official Glendronach, a 24 year old, from 1992, cask 131, at 54.3%, 464 bottles in all. Glendronach is a Highland single malt known for its heavy Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry maturation. By 1862 it had grown into the largest duty paying distillery in the Highlands. Its water is the Dronac Burn, which also gave the distillery its name.
Taken gently through wash and spirit stills, for the rich, sherried make Glendronach is known for. An Oloroso sherry butt held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into raisin, fig, beeswax and a bittersweet chocolate. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. The casks are picked closely, the wood matched to the rich Glendronach make. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years.
At a hearty 54.3% it carries real weight. A rich, sherried sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A dark chocolate and a soft oak give it weight. It finishes long, full and fruity. This is Glendronach's deep, fruity Highland style.
