Description
This official Glendronach, a 12 year old, at 46.1%. Glendronach is a Highland single malt, founded in 1826 near Huntly in Aberdeenshire. Its water is the Dronac Burn, which also gave the distillery its name. It was mothballed in 1996 and lay silent until production resumed in 2002. It joined William Teacher and Sons in 1960 and became a core malt of the Teacher's blend.
It was distilled to a rich, generous cut, for the rich, sherried make Glendronach is known for. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Highland body. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. The full spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out its darker register.
At 46.1% it is smooth and rich. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The body is full and rich, the fruit deep and dark. The finish runs long, full and warming. This is Glendronach's deep, fruity Highland style.
