Description
A distillery release of Glendronach, a 10 year old, at 43%. Glendronach is a Highland single malt, founded in 1826 near Huntly in Aberdeenshire. It was mothballed in 1996 and lay silent until production resumed in 2002.
Distilled in copper pot stills, for a weighty, full spirit the sherry casks then deepen. Maturation ran across Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks, layered over the Glendronach spirit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the orchard notes deepening to sultana, date and chocolate. Active first fill sherry wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. The full bodied spirit takes active wood well, carrying its dark sugars through the years. Years in oak deepen the spirit to a darker gold, the body growing rounder and more resinous with time. Long ageing turns the fresh notes towards date, prune and a dark, bittersweet chocolate.
At 43% it is rich, fruity and deep. Fig, walnut and a bittersweet chocolate, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. The body is full and rich, the fruit deep and dark. The finish is long, rich and spiced. This is the sherry led malt of Forgue.
