Description
This official Glencadam, a 15 year old, from 2007, at 46%, 9420 bottles in all. Glencadam is a Highland single malt whose upward angled lyne arms give a light, fruity spirit. It is the only distillery in Angus, and the last in Brechin since North Port closed in 1983. It was bought by Angus Dundee Distillers in 2003, who also own Tomintoul, ending a three year closure.
It was distilled in onion shaped copper pot stills, building a soft malt of orchard fruit and a creamy sweetness. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the light spirit on over the years. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a creamy depth. Long ageing turns the fresh pear towards tropical fruit, honey and a gentle spice. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Highland spirit. A soft, creamy texture from the spirit carries through the maturation.
At 46% it is fruity, creamy and soft. Pear, apple and a soft cream, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a fresh, fruity Highland single malt.
