Description
Decadent Drinks bottled this Glencadam, a 14 year old, distilled in 2011, at 57.1%, one of 164 bottles. Glencadam is a Highland single malt, founded in 1825 in Angus, in the eastern Highlands. Its stills carry lyne arms angled upward, raising the reflux for a lighter, fruitier spirit.
The spirit was drawn from a long fermentation, building a soft malt of orchard fruit and a creamy sweetness. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the pear softening towards a creamy honey. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the light spirit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and creamier with time. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool, racked Highland warehouses. The clean, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a creamy honey.
At its natural 57.1% it is full and fruity. Pear, melon and a light barley note, lifted by a soft oak. Soft pear and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. It finishes light, fresh and faintly creamy. This is a gently fruity, creamy Highland malt.
