Description
A distillery release of Glencadam, a 13 year old, cask Batch 3, at 46%, 5994 bottles in all. Glencadam is a gentle, fruity Highland malt of orchard and tropical fruit. It became a core malt of the Ballantine's blend after Hiram Walker bought it in 1954. Its stills carry lyne arms angled upward, raising the reflux for a lighter, fruitier spirit. Its single malts are bottled at 46 percent, without chill filtration or added colour.
The spirit was drawn from a long fermentation, shaping a gentle, fragrant malt with a tropical lift. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending a creamy vanilla. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and creamier with time.
At 46% it is fruity, creamy and soft. A clean, fruity sweetness with a floral lift, lifted by a soft oak. Melon, pear and a creamy honey fill the middle. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a gently fruity, creamy Highland malt.
