Description
An 11 year old Glencadam from Douglas McGibbon, distilled in 1995, from cask DMG 3938, at 46%. Glencadam is a Highland single malt whose upward angled lyne arms give a light, fruity spirit. Most of its make long went to blends; bottled single malt Glencadam was rare until a full range arrived. It was founded in 1825 by the merchant George Cooper, soon after the Excise Act made licensed distilling viable. It became a core malt of the Ballantine's blend after Hiram Walker bought it in 1954.
The spirit was drawn from a long fermentation, for the delicate, fruity make Glencadam is known for. Ex-Bourbon casks held it, the American oak lending vanilla and a light honey. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the pear softening towards a creamy honey. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Highland spirit. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the light spirit.
Bottled at 46%, it is light and creamy. A light orchard fruit and a green herb, lifted by a soft oak. Soft pear and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. A fresh finish closes on pear and a soft oak. This is a Highland single malt of real finesse.
