Description
This official Glencadam, a 10 year old, at 46%. Glencadam is a Highland single malt whose upward angled lyne arms give a light, fruity spirit. It was bought by Angus Dundee Distillers in 2003, who also own Tomintoul, ending a three year closure. It is the only distillery in Angus, and the last in Brechin since North Port closed in 1983.
It was run slowly off the spirit still, for a creamy, fruity make with real elegance. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool, racked Highland warehouses. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and creamier with time. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Highland spirit.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. Pear, apple and a soft cream, lifted by a soft oak. Melon, pear and a creamy honey fill the middle. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a light, fruity Highland single malt.
