Description
Hunter Laing bottled this Glencadam, a 10 year old, distilled in 2012, at 46%, one of 341 bottles. Glencadam is a gentle, fruity Highland malt of orchard and tropical fruit. It is the only distillery in Angus, and the last in Brechin since North Port closed in 1983. Most of its make long went to blends; bottled single malt Glencadam was rare until a full range arrived.
Run slowly off the spirit still, shaping a gentle, fragrant malt with a tropical lift. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and creamier with time. Because the upward lyne arms keep the spirit light, the cask shows clearly through the years. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool, racked Highland warehouses.
Bottled at 46%, it is light and creamy. A delicate, tropical fruit with a soft body, lifted by a soft oak. It is fruity and gently creamy, the delicate spirit shining through. It finishes light, fresh and faintly creamy. This is a fruity, easy going Highland single malt.
