Description
This Glenburgie was bottled by Claxton's, a 9 year old, distilled in 2015, from cask EXP1081, at 50%. Glenburgie is a light, fruity Speyside malt of orchard fruit, grass and a soft waxy thread. Its make has long fed big blends like Old Smuggler down the decades.
The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, for a soft, fruity spirit with a waxy thread. It was finished in a Tawny Port cask, the wood building on the light, fruity spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit light, fresh and fruity. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At 50%, undiluted, it is rich and waxy. Green apple, citrus and a waxy note, with a nutty, raisined red fruit from the cask. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a waxy honey. This is the fragrant blending malt of Alves.
