Description
A Glenburgie of an 8 year old chosen by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, distilled in 2014, at 47.5%, one of 1788 bottles. Glenburgie is a clean, fruity Speyside malt, light and fresh in the glass. It was expanded to six stills after the rebuild, one of the bigger distilleries in the group.
The spirit was distilled in tall onion shaped pot stills, giving a fragrant, orchard led Speyside spirit. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building on the light, fruity spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and lactones as coconut over apple, pear and fresh grass. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
Bottled at a cask strength 47.5%, it is concentrated. A soft, orchard led sweetness with a floral lift, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Pear, grass and a creamy oak fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a waxy honey. This is a Speyside single malt of real lightness.
