Description
This Glenburgie was bottled by Langside Distillers, an 8 year old, distilled in 2007, at 46%, one of 348 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt made near Alves in Moray, east of Forres. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878.
The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, giving a fragrant, orchard led Speyside spirit. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit light, fresh and fruity. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards beeswax, tropical fruit and a gentle spice. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax.
At 46% it is smooth and fruity. A soft, orchard led sweetness with a floral lift, with a gentle oak sweetness. The body is light and clean, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is the fragrant blending malt of Alves.
