A Glenburgie of a 27 year old chosen by The Whiskyfind, distilled in 1995, from cask 6705/6718, at 54.7%, one of 498 bottles. Glenburgie is a fragrant Speyside malt, a core flavour of Ballantine's for decades. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing. It has belonged to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, since 2005. It was expanded to six stills after the rebuild, one of the bigger distilleries in the group. Its water is drawn from a local spring near the distillery.

Distilled from unpeated malt, giving a fragrant, orchard led Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. In the oxidative, evaporative years the spirit concentrates to tropical fruit, honey and a waxy, candle wax depth. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit.

At a natural 54.7% it is full and waxy. Baked apple, grass and a light honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
