Description
Gordon and MacPhail bottled this Glenburgie, a 26 year old, distilled in 1995, from cask 6349, at 56.8%, one of 564 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, a blending malt rarely seen on its own and largely the work of independents. It sits near Alves in Moray, east of Forres, in the heart of Speyside.
The spirit was taken gently through wash and spirit stills, building a light malt of orchard fruit and fresh grass. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working into the fruity malt. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into mango, beeswax and a waxy honey. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards beeswax, tropical fruit and a gentle spice.
At its natural 56.8% it is full and fruity. Baked apple, grass and a light honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real lightness.
