Description
Signatory Vintage bottled this Glenburgie, a 25 year old, distilled in 1995, from cask 5, at 53.7%, one of 683 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt made near Alves in Moray, east of Forres. Its make has long fed big blends like Old Smuggler down the decades. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936.
The spirit was worked unhurried through the stillhouse, shaping a fine, clean malt with a floral lift. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building on the light, fruity spirit. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into mango, beeswax and a waxy honey. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool Speyside warehouses. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit.
At a hearty 53.7% it carries real weight. A soft, orchard led sweetness with a floral lift, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is soft and gently waxy, the light spirit shining through. Green apple, honey and a soft oak see it out. This is a fragrant Speyside single malt of real lightness.
