Description
Signatory Vintage bottled this Glenburgie, a 15 year old, distilled in 1997, from cask 1928 + 29, at 43%, one of 839 bottles. Glenburgie is a light, fruity Speyside malt of orchard fruit, grass and a soft waxy thread. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing.
The spirit was distilled in tall onion shaped pot stills, shaping a fine, clean malt with a floral lift. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending a creamy vanilla. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds ripe esters of apple and a light tropical note over a waxy depth. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards beeswax, tropical fruit and a gentle spice. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time.
Reduced to 43%, it is mellow and fragrant. A delicate, soft malt with a waxy edge, with a gentle oak sweetness. Pear, grass and a creamy oak fill the middle. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a fruity Speyside malt rarely seen on its own.
