Description
This Glenburgie comes from Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh house that bottles at Edradour above Pitlochry, a 14 year old, distilled in 2007, from cask 900079, at 62.2%, one of the festival bottlings. Glenburgie is a clean, fruity Speyside malt, light and fresh in the glass. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936.
Drawn from a long fermentation, for a soft, fruity spirit with a waxy thread. It was finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building on the light, fruity spirit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool Speyside warehouses. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
Bottled at a cask strength 62.2%, it is concentrated. Apple, pear and a soft honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run baked apple, a light citrus and a soft honey. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
