Description
A Glenburgie of an 11 year old chosen by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, distilled in 2010, at 47.5%, one of 1795 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, long the fruity heart of the Ballantine's blend. It was expanded to six stills after the rebuild, one of the bigger distilleries in the group. It was rebuilt in 1881 by Charles Chree Doig, the architect behind so many Speyside stillhouses.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. It was matured in an Oloroso cask, the wood working into the fruity malt. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper apple, pear and a soft honey. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At 47.5%, undiluted, it is rich and waxy. Apple, pear and a soft honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is soft and gently waxy, the light spirit shining through. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
