Description
An 11 year old Glenburgie from Valinch and Mallet, distilled in 2010, from cask 159, at 52.6%, one of 332 bottles. Glenburgie is a light, fruity Speyside malt of orchard fruit, grass and a soft waxy thread. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878. It has belonged to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, since 2005. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing.
Distilled in tall onion shaped pot stills, shaping a fine, clean malt with a floral lift. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the fruity spirit growing rounder and a touch waxy. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool Speyside warehouses. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards beeswax, tropical fruit and a gentle spice.
At its natural 52.6% it is full and fruity. Green apple, citrus and a waxy note, lifted by a soft oak. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
