Description
The Single Cask Ltd bottled this Glenburgie, an 11 year old, distilled in 2010, from cask 112, at 58%, one of 264 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, long the fruity heart of the Ballantine's blend. It sits near Alves in Moray, east of Forres, in the heart of Speyside. Most of its make goes quietly to blends; single malt Glenburgie is rare, and largely from independents.
It was run slowly off the spirit still, building a light malt of orchard fruit and fresh grass. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit.
Bottled at a cask strength 58%, it is concentrated. Green apple, citrus and a waxy note, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft apple and a waxy honey sit behind the cask. A long, fruity finish carries a waxy honey. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
