A Glenburgie of an 11 year old chosen by Duncan Taylor, distilled in 1996, at 46%. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, owned by Chivas Brothers and one of the larger Speyside distilleries. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878. It was rebuilt in 1881 by Charles Chree Doig, the architect behind so many Speyside stillhouses. Most of its make goes quietly to blends; single malt Glenburgie is rare, and largely from independents.

It was run slowly off the spirit still, for the light, fruity make the Ballantine's blenders prized. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax.

At 46% it is smooth and fruity. Baked apple, grass and a light honey, over a gentle, creamy oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is a light, fruity Speyside single malt.
