Description
Hart Brothers bottled this Glenburgie, a 10 year old, at 43%. Glenburgie is a light, fruity Speyside malt of orchard fruit, grass and a soft waxy thread. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing.
Taken gently through wash and spirit stills, building a light malt of orchard fruit and fresh grass. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards beeswax, tropical fruit and a gentle spice. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt.
At an approachable 43% it is fresh and clean. Baked apple, grass and a light honey, over a gentle, creamy oak. The body is light and clean, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. The finish runs delicate, fruity and waxy. This is a light, waxy Speyside single malt.
