Description
A Glenburgie of a 10 year old chosen by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, distilled in 2011, at 47.5%, one of 1737 bottles. Glenburgie is a clean, fruity Speyside malt, light and fresh in the glass. It was expanded to six stills after the rebuild, one of the bigger distilleries in the group. It sits near Alves in Moray, east of Forres, in the heart of Speyside.
Taken gently through wash and spirit stills, giving a fragrant, orchard led Speyside spirit. Maturation came in a Pedro Ximenez cask, layered over the fresh Glenburgie make. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper apple, pear and a soft honey. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool Speyside warehouses. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit.
At its natural 47.5% it is full and fruity. Green apple, citrus and a waxy note, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. A green apple and a gentle citrus lift the middle. It finishes light, fresh and faintly waxy. This is the fragrant blending malt of Alves.
